Making the Most of Medical School with MedMo

What does it take to succeed in medical school from start to finish? Loaded question. We know. Just getting in is a hurdle.

According to 2012 data from the Association of American Medical Colleges, more than 43,000 applicants submitted more than 636,000 applications last year. That means, on average, each applicant applied to at least 14 U.S. medical schools.

Second-year medical students at "speed networking" event

Second-year Einstein students attend "speed networking" event to learn about post-medical school careers from alumni.

In an attempt to provide a useful resource that takes interested students from applicants to residents, we’re dedicating the month of April on this blog and on all of Einstein’s social media platforms to providing guidance. We’ll address topics ranging from choosing the best medical school and navigating challenging curricula to succeeding in clerkships and choosing residencies. We’re calling this cross-platform effort #MedMo, short for “medical education month.” #MedMo is for anyone interested in, accepted to or currently attending a U.S medical school.

Through April, you’ll hear from our deans, a clerkship director and our students — all blogging and providing video interviews about experiences you can expect and advice you can use from the application process and through years one to four.

Here is a video preview of student reflections on first year.

We were inspired to try this themed social media month by the overwhelming response we received on this blog and on Einstein’s Facebook and Twitter platforms to medical education content. This rich topic has been among the most popular since we launched The Doctor’s Tablet. We recognize that our audience wants more.

Two examples of prior posts that generated discussion are 5 Ways to Ace Medical School Exams by Maximizing Study Time and 8 Tips for Getting the Most out of Study Groups.

We invite you to join us for a month of sharing, insights and practical advice. Be sure to subscribe to this blog to get the latest posts, follow us on Twitter using the #MedMo hashtag and visit this landing page, the nexus of all content.
